Collage 1: Helmut Newton's Illustrated: No. 2 Pictured from an Exhibition
I had hit a wall, I had grown weary of only removing the text and layouts from books. My work had become stagnant.
I had reached out to a past instructor I had when I attended the Studio Art Program at Capilano University- Nancy Boyd. I've always considered Nancy one of the strongest instructors I had during my education in Fine Art. I knew I was not the strongest artist in her class, but her critiques let me know that I had the ability to push my work further.
She observed that I was remaining "safe" by only removing text from books. Nancy was right. I was. She suggested that I try working with books that are predominately full of imagery instead.
I had a copy of Helmut Newton's Illustrated (No. 1-4) I thought this would be a good book to start with as all of the images are iconic and provocative. Although, I was concerned that I was going to end up with a bunch of empty pages.
I have anything but that.
